Left unchecked and without regulation, we will lose the heart and soul of our nation. Since the collapse of the late ‘oughties, property developers have been allowed to do what they want. Authorities make out that this will help turn the tide and kick start our economy. We know better – and that we can never recover from the irreparable harm done to our heritage.

Across this nation, those in power have been allowed to do what they will; fuelled by the dazzling lights and hypnotic sales pitches of investors and developers. Businessmen promise affordable housing and a strength of civic facilities; instead, we see entire towns levelled to make room for luxury safe-deposit boxes and exclusive resorts.

State powers are replacing our homes with investment units, sold to overseas developers and heartless speculators. The more they build, the more they consolidate their hold, the emptier our landscape becomes, soulless and remote.

Developers have simply bounced back from the depths of the crash a decade ago with bigger plans, and the ambition to operate like the great estates of bygones past. We cannot and will not stand for that here – yet, even now moves are made to throw up more exclusive follies of greed and privilege.
