I can’t believe that it’s a decade since the Occupy Movement sought to make a difference through protest. I think seeing those people on the news might have been my formative influence in protest as a route to change.
Our protest to #SaveInnsmouth might seem small fry to what they looked to achieve, but it’s still about the same stuff. What the Dunold bulldozer seeks is to wipe out our history, destabilize our community, and benefit the few—the affluent few who, in this climate of poverty and desperation, can afford to spend their time in a spa.
I see neighbourhoods not far from campus that sorely need development and investment. It’s badly needed and our generation faces a world where good housing and community spirit fall a far second behind providing gentrified second or third homes to the wealthy.
Protest is long overdue.
